Phased Circles

IMG_8743

Phased Circles is an experiment in color theory, a play with low-volume and saturated color. Inspired by a “doodle” playing with the interaction of circles and lines. Matchstick and crosshatch quilting was used on the low-volume quadrants to add exquisite texture. Height in the circles and saturated colored border was accomplished by using less dense straight line 1″ quilting, making these areas, literally, pop. Matched block colored binding was used to extend the borders to the edge of the quilt. The back is a stark contrast to the front as it is without color (black, grey and white).

Phased Circles was accepted in the modern traditional category at QuiltCon 2015, an exhibition quilt for the Modern Quilt Showcase at Houston Quilt Market, and a semi-finalist in the Wall Quilt – Modern Category at AQS Grand Rapids 2017.

A quilt sleeve is attached to the back for easy hanging. A label on the back documents the quilt name, artist name and date. Made with high quality cotton and thread. Machine washable in cold water with gentle detergent, line dry for best results.
